As part of Business Continuity Awareness Week Charlie has been asked to give a webinar on - Business Continuity for SMEs

The talk will be aimed at small and medium businesses.

'Are you one step from disaster?'

You run a successful business and you know there are lots of things you should be doing to protect your business, but you are too busy looking after your customers, find new ones and making money - you just don't just have time. The disaster happens, the one you hoped wouldn't, the sickening feeling in the stomach followed by;

is my data backed up?
how can I look after my customers - will they leave? Do I have their details?
will this be the end of my business?
will I be able to pay the mortgage?
all that hard work lost.....

If only I had thought about it, why didn't I prepare, it would have been so simple .....

Charlie will give an interactive, jargon free webinar looking at some of the risks faced by small and medium businesses and will give cost effective, practical solutions to deal with them.

Can you afford to miss it.....

PlanB is proud to announce that Kim Maclean-Bristol passed the BSI Lead Auditors Course. PlanB Consulting are now able to offer BS25999 audits to their customers.

PlanB Consulting accredited to the BSI's Associate Consultant Programme

PlanB Consulting has been given full accreditation by the British Standards Institute as a member of its Associate Consultant Programme (ACP) for BS25999 (Business Continuity Management).

The ACP designation follows a comprehensive review of PlanB Consulting's portfolio of work on these standards, including its supporting processes and procedures.

The BSI is a world-leading business services organisation. Originating as the world's first national standards body, the BSI Group has grown to supply services to over 100 countries worldwide.

As a certification body, the BSI is entirely independent and as such, is unable to provide any form of consultancy service. The ACP was established to direct clients to consultants that the BSI has thoroughly assessed. The ACP is a list of consultancies that have demonstrated their experience and competence to the BSI with respect to certified management systems.

Paper published in the Business Continuity Journal Volume 3 Issue - May 2008

“The Business Continuity Journal is a peer reviewed international business continuity journal. Each issue provides unique very high level content, which explores advanced business continuity thinking and showcases the latest in business continuity academic research. Each paper in the Business Continuity Journal has been scrutinized by a panel consisting of experienced practitioners, academics and subject matter experts”.

The paper presented was “Explaining Business Continuity – the capability diagram”.

Abstract - I have on many occasions had to try to explain to colleagues and clients what business continuity is all about. I have started a number of times explaining “if their organisation suffered a disaster which caused the loss their head office building or their data centre it is all about planning for the recovery after a disaster….”. Eyes quickly begin to glaze over and they rapidly lose interest. What I have looked for is a simple diagram which would explain the essence of business continuity without jargon or any technical terminology but is powerful enough to capture completely the concept of business continuity easily understandable to a ‘layman’. In the Good Practice Guide and BS25999 there are diagrams which explain the process but these do not explain the essence of what business continuity is all about. To solve this problem I have come up with the ‘Capability Diagram’ and for me this works in capturing, in a simple diagram, what business continuity is all about.
