Cyber Podcasts You Need To Listen To!

As podcasts are becoming the new ‘thing’, Charlie shares his three favourites. Keep up-to-date with business continuity by listening to these incredibly interesting and thought-provoking podcasts.

As many of you may have plans to go on holiday soon, I thought I would share three podcasts I really enjoy listening to regarding business continuity. I highly advise you to give these a listen while you’re flying or sat on the beach!

1. The Lazarus Heist

“‘Almost a perfect crime.’ The hacking ring and an attempt to steal a billion dollars. Investigators blame North Korea. Pyongyang denies involvement. The story begins in Hollywood.”

This is the story of the Sony hack and the Bangladesh bank theft in an eight-part podcast. I am really enjoying it and it’s a real opportunity to understand a number of iconic cyber attacks in depth.

2. File on 4 – Held to Ransom

“The extraordinary story of a UK schools group which took on a cyber ransomware gang.

The Harris Federation seems an unlikely target for ransomware criminals but it found itself at the centre of a cyber attack by anonymous hackers. With its servers down and a ransom demand of nearly £3 million, school leaders had to decide quickly whether to pay or suffer the consequences. File on 4 has unique access to the extraordinary negotiations that took place behind the scenes, involving an Israeli security company and Russian hackers.

More British institutions are being hit by ransomware gangs than ever before, from multi-national corporations to health care trusts and even schools. The attackers hack into an organisation’s computer system, encrypt the data and demand a ransom to get it back. Increasingly, they also threaten to publish sensitive information if no payment is made. It’s known as double extortion.

The former head of the National Cyber Security Centre tells File on 4 that the government needs to intervene as a matter of urgency, and make it illegal to pay ransomware gangs.”

This is a good opportunity to get the inside track on a ransomware attack and understand some of the more serious impacts of a cyber hack.

3. Immersive Labs Podcasts – Cyber Humanity

If you like your podcasts more chatty, but dealing with contemporary issues, this is the podcast for you. The content is a mixture of technical and incident responses, but it’s not overly technical, so as a non-techie I get enough technical input to understand the issue, but not too much for the podcast to be unintelligible. They are always up-to-date, so if you want to understand the latest incident within a week or two you will be able to get it on this podcast.
